Yes, this is my 42nd blog post. And a great lead into another thing to write about. Another of my favorite things to do is read. I am a big time reader. Most of the time I tend to read fiction. Science fiction and Fantasy are my favorites, with mysteries coming in a close third. Believe it or not, I’ve never read the “Hitchhikers Guide” I did catch some of the BBC radio series, but never got through the whole story. I can’t remember why it was taken off local radio, but I don’t think they ever finished it. Someday, I’ll have to check and see if they have it on tape or DVD. I may have to see the movie and read the books too, but I want to experience the radio show first.
Did you ever play the old computer game? There was a big blog post I just read about the story behind the failure to make The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. Apparently he got a hold of a hard drive from the old Infocom with a number of emails going back and forth through the company. Even a lot of the old employees found it and posted their side of the story. Very interesting read. I’ll try to find the link again if you’d like. You can play Hitchhiker online too, by the way.
Hmm. No response. Well, in case anyone is interested the blog post is at THIS LINK. You can play the game online HERE, HERE, or apparently HERE, though I didn’t immediately see it at the last link.
Never played the old computer game. I didn’t even know there was one. I still think I want to find the radio show first.
Now I know you were around during the era of Infocom… If you know of the Zork games, HGttG was a text adventure in the style of Zork. That third game link I posted- and by the way I do know there is a game there, I am just not sure if the game, as in the original Infocom game- is actually a link to BBC radio. There are links there to find out more about the show, though unfortunately I don’t see a way to listen to the old radio show online. There is a listen live link, but I don’t know if non-British are allowed to listen to it. I know they have that tax over there to pay for BBC, and I since we don’t pay that tax over here…
Oh, and the series is definitely available on CD. They are dubbed “Primary Phase”, “Secondary Phase”, etc. Five “phases” for five books. Only the first two are the original show. Apparently the last three books were never done on the radio until just a few years ago. They say most of the cast is the same though, if 30 years older…
