I took 2 of my daughters to see Prince Caspian tonight. While I enjoyed the movie, but couldn’t help but feeling that it wasn’t quite flowing with the book. It has been years since I’ve read the book, so I couldn’t be sure. I will have to read the book again to determine if my feelings were accurate.
As far as the movie. I was entertained. I think that I will want to get the DVD. I think I would just rent this to see it again in most normal instances, but since I have the first movie, and the books, it will add nicely to a collection.
I’m not sure I would take younger children to this movie unless they have a good idea that movies are “make believe”. This movie was a little more intense than “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. There are two major battles, and a couple of more intense chase scenes. So while a good movie, you may want to watch it first before taking the young ones.
Prince Caspian is probably the book I remember least of the seven. I did forget to mention the battle scene from the first movie. While there is no blood or gore, they do get pretty intense…. somewhat heavy for the very young.
A little more blood in this one jamiahsh. For some reason I didn’t remember much of Prince Caspian either, I was remembering the “Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. That comes later.
yes, I believe that that is the next movie planned.
I heard on the radio about this being a bit violent for children, otherwise a 4.5 out of 5 for family friendliness for teens and older.
Thought about taking our young kids – but the 2 hr 20 min runtime took care of that decision… good thing if it’s also scary.

I’m not sure scary it the right word for it. I’m thinking more intense. The battle scenes are more realistic than the first, and for want of a better word there is a battle slaughter scene. I would have felt uncomfortable taking anyone under the age of 10-13. Knowing your middle daughter, she would have had very little problem if any. Your oldest, hmmm that could depend on her mood and attitude toward movies. Since the prices around us are so good, it may be a good date night for you and the hubby, then you could decide on taking the girls or not.
I finished reading the book last night. While they did a decent job at following the story, there were some major differences.

The flight of Prince Caspian was the first major scene in the movie, in the book this was told to the 4 kings by the dwarf the rescued. Good for the movie, to make it part of the action, but they did add a chase scene that was not in the book.
Train Station fight never happened in the book.
The two boys were the only ones that fought in battle. The girls stayed with Aslan during the final battle. There was only one battle that the boys fought in. It was very short and after the duel. The other battle was fought before they arrived to help. It was not described in the story, other than to say it was lost.
I don’t believe this unmentioned battle was a storming of the castle like the movie portrayed. Good action sequence, but not faithful to the book.
In some ways the movie was a better story than the book itself. In other ways the book was better. One should always remember the audience that the book was intended for. This is a story for those early teen and pre-teen readers. It was not written to be an action thriller. The movie on the other hand seemed to be written as an action thriller for a slightly more mature audience. But that is Hollywood these days.
